Ushering the new Provincial Commissioner W Toba into his new office, Eastern Cape premier Rev Makhenkesi Stofile warned criminals in this
province that government was intensifying the war against them and that their days are numbered.

Speaking at a press conference to officially introduce commissioner Toba to the media in Bisho this morning Rev Stofile said commissioner
Toba was no stranger to the Eastern Cape because she was born and bred in this province. "He is the son of the soil", the Premier said,
adding that people should remember that Toba has been in the forefront of the fight against corruption for a long time.

In the presence of the top management of the South African Police Services (SAPAS), including the MEC for Provincial Safety, Liaison and
Transport, Mr Dennis Neer, Rev Stofile said Toba has been given new responsibilities and what is expected of the SAPS.

One of his new challenges is to intensify the war against crime in the Eastern Cape. Stofile added that government wanted to spare no
second in the battle against criminals because criminals have become so sophisticated in the 21st century.

The Eastern Cape Government is also aware that criminals from other provinces were infiltrating this province, thinking that it is a safer
heaven for them. The Premier made it clear that Commissioner Toba has been charged to crack down on this.

Rev. Stofile said the new Commissioner is also expected to build unity with the South African Police Service. "And there should be no sign
of cracks within this service," the Premier said.

In no uncertain terms, Stofile told all high-ranking officials who attended the ceremony, that if Toba fails to perform his duties, they
should also take the blame. He urged them to work together for the betterment of the SAPS.

Accepting the challenge, Toba thanked the provincial government for having faith and trust in him and added that he accepted the challenge
with both hands.

He also said he was aware that he was not carrying a bag full of experience but determination to succeed in his new job.

Toba also threw a challenge to the Commissioner that people of the Eastern Cape needed security and stability and that it was their
responsibility to provide that. "Ive worked with you for many years and hope and trust that we will work as a team for the sake of our
country and the Eastern Cape in particular," said Toba.

He also mentioned that he was not interested in petty difference and "all are welcomed in my office".
